FAQ

What modifications are you making for your 6.1 L “stroker” engine?

The 6.1 L engine is a stroked version of the LS1/LS6 engine (crankshaft “stroke” is increased). Using a billet 4340 chromoly steel crankshaft (nitrided), forged 4340 chromoly steel connecting rods and forged aluminum-alloy Wiseco pistons, the displacement is increased from 5.7 liters (346 cubic inches) to 6.1 liters (372 cubic inches). The stock bore is left unchanged at 3.900 inches due to the design of the GEN III’s cylinder liners, which do not tolerate boring as an older cast-iron block would. In addition, we believe that a “square” motor (that is, a motor with equal bore and stroke measurements) makes more torque (about 9% as a general rule of thumb). We have had a custom gun-drilled billet-steel cam ground to our own specifications, and when installed in our 6.1 L engine, it is emission-legal. The original cylinder heads are completely CNC-ported to insure that each port, and combustion chamber is exactly the same size. We install new chrome-moly pushods, springs and lightweight retainers, to maintain optimum flow values and power.

For the 6.1 L engine, it is not necessary to change throttle bodies or fuel injectors as the factory components can supply enough air and fuel to feed this larger, more powerful engine. We also use stock-type piston rings to insure long life and proper sealing. The Mallett 435 engine, when installed by Mallett Cars, LTD., is also covered by a 2 year, 24,000 mile warranty against defects in workmanship or materials.

Can I buy just certain conversion components from Mallett Cars (such as exhaust or an engine)?

Yes. With the demand for our conversions being so high, and with so many customers asking if they can just buy certain parts, we have decided to offer many of the components that go into our Corvette, Cadillac CTS-V, and GM SUV conversions as stand-alone items. Whether you need a set of brake pads or an entire engine, Mallett Cars, LTD. can provide the parts you need to fit your budget.

Because we are the leading innovator of high performance Corvette, Cadillac and GM truck/SUV components, we only sell those items we have personally developed and tested. A considerable amount of time and money has been spent on the refinement of every component we offer, and they are all engineered to work perfectly with the vehicle platforms mentioned above. Our parts are also fully compatible with each other, so you can build your vehicle as time and your budget allow.

Do I have to order my vehicle through Mallett Cars to have a conversion?

No. Any of the following models may be converted: C5/C6 Corvette, Cadillac CTS-V and GM trucks/SUV’s. If you have ordered a new vehicle on your own, but have not yet accepted delivery, we can arrange to have it drop-shipped to our facility for conversion, then shipped back to your doorstep when it is done. Mallett Cars has made the ordering and delivery process easier by having a large selection of new vehicles available to you by locating one through our network. This will not only insure that you are getting a properly-equipped vehicle for conversion, but it may also speed delivery time. Our dealer network also provides vehicles to our customers at great prices, without any mark-ups or kick-backs to Mallett Cars. Mallett Cars makes no money on vehicles ordered through our dealer network–we simply do it as a convenience to our valued customers.

Does the Mallett conversion void the factory warranty?

No! The factory warranty remains intact on all components not altered by Mallett Cars, LTD. This means that if you have trouble with the radio in a Mallett 435, for example, any Chevrolet dealer can fix the problem under the terms of the factory warranty. In addition, Mallett Cars, Ltd. provides a 2-year/24,000 mile warranty on all the components we install, including the engine and shock absorbers. If, under normal usage, these components fail, they will be repaired or replaced by Mallett Cars, LTD (vehicle shipping not included).

Are Mallett Corvette conversions also available as convertibles?

Absolutely! The (base) cost of a convertible conversion is exactly the same as for a coupe (depending on the Mallett options selected).

Can I delete certain items from the Mallett conversion package, such as emblems or the interior trim?

Yes, although the package price remains the same.

What about porting the stock intake manifold?

Despite what many people believe about the LS1/LS6 engine, porting the stock plastic intake manifold is not possible. All LS1 and LS6 intake manifolds are made of glass-reinforced nylon. They have very thin walls which are much smoother than the walls in a typical cast aluminum intake. All 2001 and newer Corvettes are equipped with the improved LS6 manifold, and earlier vehicles can be retrofitted with one. All Mallett conversions use the unaltered factory intake manifold to insure that there are no driveability or emissions problems

Why won’t Mallett Cars supercharge my stock engine or one that has had a Mallett head/cam package installed?

When we upgrade your engine to our 6.1 L “stroker” or if we build you an all-new 7.0 L engine, we use a billet 4340 chromoly steel crankshaft (nitrided), forged 4340 chromoly steel connecting rods and forged aluminum-alloy Wiseco pistons. This combination will reliably handle 750hp, and is perfectly mated to the supercharger’s demands. A stock engine will not handle the power we are producing without some serious side-effects. Engines in which we have installed one of our head/cam packages still have the OEM crankshaft/rods/pistons, which, as far as supercharging is concerned, is still a stock engine.

We would love to work with you
